I’ve been wanting to do an interview with one of my readers for a while now, but as usual these things take time. I finally found a reader, who has read all three of my books from the Destiny Chronicles, who was willing to answer some questions.
Let me introduce you to Brodie, a very busy lady who I am so grateful took the time to answer my questions. Brodie is a wife, mum to three gorgeous girls who love Irish dancing. She home-schools her girls while selling Tupperware on the side. She is one of the nicest and most honest people I know and that is why I asked her to answer some questions about my books – I knew she would cut to the chase and be completely honest. So without further ado – let’s get into it.
Watch my interview with Brodie or read it below.
INTERVIEW WITH A READER
Q: Brodie, which of the three books in the series did you enjoy the most and why?
The Rising (Bk 3).
I enjoyed The Awakening, it was a great story but I loved The Reckoning, so it took me a while to start The Rising because I didn’t want to be let down after loving The Reckoning so much. When I finally picked up The Rising, I couldn’t put it down and read it in three sittings. It was my absolute favourite. I loved the twists, the way loose ends were tied up, the attention to detail and the love story unfolding. I loved the idea of the two cultures and beliefs coming together and the realisation that they weren’t actually that different.
Q: Which characters could you relate to best?
I think I related to all of the main female characters in different ways, from Imogene, to Aislinn, Isabel and even Gwendolyn.
Q: What was each book’s central question/truth, and was it answered?
The Awakening: – Who is Mackenzie Hamilton (and his family), what do they represent and what is the ‘truth’ about their god? This was definitely answered, leaving you satisfied yet wanting to know what was next for Mackenzie and his family.
The Reckoning: – Will love be enough, not only for Aislinn but other characters too? Also, can people change? This was such a well written story with lots of twists but it definitely satisfied us with all the answers.
The Rising: – Is there one ‘true’ faith, many or do all paths lead to the same thing? This was handled delicately and answered so beautifully.
Q: What genre would you describe these books as?
Q: Was there enough description of characters, places, time frame given in the book to adequately imagine the story?
Yes, just the right amount. I was never thinking ‘get on with the story’. But I always had more than enough description to imagine the characters and the settings. I had really detailed pictures in my head as the story unfolded.
Q: Share a favorite scene from one of the books.
I can’t think of my favourite scene as such, there were so many amazing scenes. But the scene that stuck with me the most was the siege at Ebondeen. When Erik and Phoenix were fighting and you don’t know which one got hit with the arrow. How the thoughts coming from the survivor could have come from either of the men. The build up of suspense was huge and the result was so shocking!!!
Q: What did you like most about the books?
I am a sucker for a love story, so my favourite thing in the books was seeing the relationships develop, how they overcome adversities and finally found happiness getting together in the end. I also loved that the story was unpredictable, I loved being surprised and excited by what happened in each of the novels.
Q: What did you like least?
I honestly can’t think of what I liked least. The Awakening was slower to get started, but I know that was because it was setting the scene and introducing the characters and story. I guess I just liked it all.
Q: Did you like the way the books ended? If not, what would you have liked to see?
Yes I liked that I wasn’t left hanging too much, that most of my questions were answered but there was still enough going on for me to be interested in what was going to happen in the next book.
Q: What did you think of the covers?
I like the covers, I think they suit the stories. I just thought that Isabel on the cover of ‘The Rising’ looked older than I imagined her to be.
Q: Would you recommend these books and if so why?
Yes, because they are such great entertaining stories that had me caught up, not wanting to put them down. They are also thought provoking, which I loved too.
Q: What age do you recommend these books for?
I would say 13 years onwards to adults
Q: Would you read any further books in the series and why?
Yes, I can’t wait for the next installment. So far the story keeps getting better as the books go on and I’m looking forward to seeing what exciting things happen to the next generation.
Q: Is there anything else you think I may have neglected to ask but feel is important to convey?
I can’t really think of anything else, except that I think you are an amazingly talented author. I really can’t grasp how you came up with such detailed, exciting, thought provoking novels and actually wrote them down and got them published. You are incredible! Looking forward to Book 4 xxoo.
